of the Tilaran mountain range, 30 kilometers (19 miles) due east of Montverde,
45 kilometers (28 miles) north of San Ramon and due west of Ciudad Quesada.
La Tigra is about a 2 hour drive from the San Jose airport ( which is actually just outside of Alajuela ) The average rainfall is 3.9 meters per year, primarily falling in May to December. During our dry season we usually experience a maximum of 30 days without rain. Our temperature range is 64 - 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The soils of farms and building site properties are of volcanic origin and well drained. La Tigra is located on a "flyway" for migrating birds and butterflies. One can see hundreds, or even thousands, of swallowtail kites and vultures. There are more than 270 bird species in this area, including quetzals, bell birds, umbrella birds, trogans, toucans, parrots and various songbirds. More than 450 species of butterflies have also been identified in this area. Wildlife abounds all around the farms, and three types of cats or jaguar tracks have been seen on various property - I have personally seen the Costa Rica Tigra early morning chasing a large catlike appearance animal they call a "tejon" and a second time just running across our property Lake Arenal, Arenal volcano and Tabacon hot springs are about 45 minutes away on paved road and locally, shopping in the major city of Ciudad Quesada (aka San Carlos) is about 30 minutes to our east, or in La Fortuna about 30 minutes north ... There are many natural waterfalls, winding canyons and beautiful mountain or valley view settings in our geographic area, so we invite you to visit to see what we have to offer and how our lifestyle is a bit different from the stressed out metropolitan areas - it most assuredly works well for us .... |
