F49 - Farm Sustained Retreat Center in Paradise - $550,000 U$D
Conveniently located near the Rio Celeste National Park just outside Katira in the Guatuso Canton, Finca Pura Vida has served as a retreat center and an international missions base since 2006. Its rural setting combined with its proximity to multiple national parks, the Arenal Volcano, and the Liberia International Airport make it a great place to escape from city life.
Finca Pura Vida is a nature lover’s paradise containing 13 hectares (33 Acres) with views of both the Tenorio and Arenal volcanos, monkeys, sloths, toucans, parrots and numerous other bird and butterfly species. In 2007, a natural reforestation project was begun to protect the diversity of the wildlife and vegetation as well as the multiple springs on the farm’s upper hills and the rocky mountain streams that flow between them.
The lower half of the farm’s rich volcanic soil is planted with 400 lumber trees including teak, laurel, cedro amargo, sota caballo, and cristobal; 400 cocoa trees interspersed with plantain, and pastureland for cattle near their corral. Room is available for expansion of any of these farming ventures.
A cozy administrator’s cottage of cement and timber frame construction was built in 2009 with vaulted ceilings, custom made windows and doors, two bedrooms, a large bathroom, and a great room. The large front porch and carport style garage sport tropical hardwood beams and columns harvested right from the farm.
Just a short distance away sits a rustic style wooden cabin studio with vaulted ceilings, built in 2009 on the site of the original farm house, complete with kitchen area, tiled bathroom, and wrap around wooden deck. Adjacent to the cabin is a large ceramic-tiled pavilion built in 2012 with full electricity to host meetings or conferences.
Another larger pavilion built in 2014 is located just on the other side of a small orchard near the cabin and administrator’s cottage to host larger groups and provide more meeting space.
Strategically placed to provide both fruit and privacy, the orchard contains a wide variety of bananas, limes, oranges, star fruit, cas, mango, mandarins, avocados, pipa coconuts, and guanabana trees; so something is in season all year long. Garden space is also available near the orchard.
Developing practical infrastructure has been a priority. Wide entrances allow both buses and tractors to enter the farm with no problem. City water and spring water are both piped into the houses, which each have their own separate septic systems as well. Full electricity, satellite TV, and good cell phone coverage make it easy to keep connected with the outside world.
Also, a large multi-room shed contains separate tiled shower and toilet rooms for guests or workers and separate storage rooms for farm chemicals and farm implements.
